Dowie gets his chance to splash the cash

Former Coventry City manager Iain Dowie is enjoying a summer in complete contrast to last year after being handed the task of getting Queens Park Rangers back into the top-flight.

Lured to Coventry by the prospect of a takeover and money to spend in the transfer market, Dowie spent the last pre-season campaign scouring for bargains.

Leon Best and Gary Borrowdale were the only two signing who cost any money and even then City's failure to pay an agreed instalment to Southampton for Best saw a transfer embargo being placed on the club.

Quite a contrast to his current position at a club being touted as the world's richest after last season's takeover.

Three new faces have already arrived at Loftus Road and QPR are being linked with more on a daily basis.

Ironically, Dowie's departure from the Ricoh Arena came after a takeover, with new chairman Ray Ranson not trusting him with the funds he was making available.

QPR obviously see things differently and a new season will bring about a different kind of pressure for a man still well-respected at CCFC.

I don't think he will still be in a job by Christmas. He had one good season at Palace and hasn't done anything since. The pressure will get too much at QPR.
