'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Result what counts for Adams

The Sky Blues ran out 2-1 winners at the Ricoh Arena in a game where both sides had plenty of chances.

A well-worked free kick caught the Owls napping just before half-time, allowing Stern John to bundle in and then a piece of quick thinking by Dennis Wise gave Gary McSheffrey the chance to make it two.

Chris Brunt ensured a nervous last ten minutes when he powered in a free kick for Wednesday.

Micky Adams said afterwards: 'We were delighted to see Brunt wasn't in from the start because we knew he was a threat from set-pieces.

'We were disappointed to give away a free-kick in that position especially with him on the field..

'We are not kidding ourselves that this was a good performance as both sides had lots of chances.'

Owls boss Paul Sturrock bemoaned the chances his side missed, saying: 'In all my years as a manager I have never seen anything like this and I thought I had seen it all.

'In training we are working on finishing but it's down to mind games now and it's a problem for us.

'No-one can accuse us of a lack of fight, will to win or attitude - it's just this problem of scoring goals.'
